LINE Users Exceed 150M Worldwide

TOKYO, May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LINE Corporation, owners and operators of
the free calling and messaging app, LINE, announced today that it has
surpassed 150M registered users worldwide.
LINE was released in June of 2011 as a group communications service available
across multiple devices and network carriers. It achieved 100M users worldwide
in January of 2013, a mere 19 months after its release. Following a rapid
surge in users since the latter part of 2012, user numbers in Spain exceeded
10M; a first among all European countries. With this, LINE has expanded its
growth strategy to include the Spanish-speaking South American region, along
with Asia, where it has enjoyed steady growth. LINE now offers its services in
12 languages, including the new additions of Spanish, French and Portuguese,
in response to the expansion of its user locations.
In February, LINE formed a strategic alliance with Nokia Corporation,
providing the service to Nokia's low-end model, "Asha". This marked LINE's
official entrance into the Southeast Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern,
and African markets; a large step in its expansion strategy.
Furthermore, LINE has introduced a series of integrated apps and services to
strengthen its platform. As for its games platform, the combined download
figure for all 16 games released by LINE GAME so far managed to exceed 100M
users in March of this year. Since then, LINE GAME has further expanded its
services to offer as many as 24 different games, and is striving to further

contents platform, LINE's official camera app, LINE camera, also exceeded 30M
downloads worldwide in April 2013, exhibiting the popularity of LINE's
