The TechAmerica Foundation's Corporate Leadership Award recognizes visionary CEOs for their leadership in setting the model for creating and driving successful technology enterprises as well as their outstanding involvement and contributions to the U.S. technology sector. Mr. Cote joins a distinguished group of recipients including Vint Cerf of Google, Bill McDermott of SAP, Kevin Johnson of Juniper and Steve Ballmer of Microsoft. Under his leadership, the company has made more than 70 acquisitions and approximately 50 divestitures, building on the company's great positions in good industries. Since 2003, the company's sales have increased 71 percent to $37.7B, earnings per share by 197 percent to $4.48, and free cash flow by 66 percent to $3.7B, while delivering a total shareowner return of 240 percent. Mr. Cote has also become a strong presence in Washington, D.C., focusing on bringing solutions to the toughest challenges facing the U.S. In 2010, President Obama appointed Mr. Cote to the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, often called the Simpson-Bowles Commission—a bipartisan panel charged with finding ways to address the country's growing debt.
