(The following press release from Hong Leong Group was received by e-mail. The sender verified the statement.) Following our earlier announcement that Hong Leong Group’s China properties are safe from the Sichuan Quake, we would like to update that Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) has partnered with Singapore non-profit organisation, Mercy Relief, with their relief efforts in Sichuan. Please see earlier advisory attached. Millennium Hotel Chengdu is sponsoring accommodation for the team of 6 people as they continue with their relief work. They will be in Sichuan until Wednesday, May 1, before they return to Singapore. We understand there are currently two relief teams of 6 people on the ground in Sichuan. Daily procurements and delivery of relief supplies are made to and fro between Chengdu and the affected areas such as Lushan and Baoxing. Their NGO partner on the ground is the Sichuan Province Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. This is the second time M&C has partnered with Mercy Relief. M&C rebuilt a school building that was destroyed in the earthquake in Sichuan in 2008 close to the area that was hit by the recent earth quake. Mercy Relief assisted in that project. The 343-room Millennium Chengdu Hotel is located in the urban district of Chengdu and 20 minutes away from Shuangliu International Airport. M&C is the hospitality arm of Hong Leong Group Singapore. Please feel free to reach us should you require any further information. Thank you.
