SCE and Nest Learning Thermostat Make it Easier for Customers to Save Energy

ROSEMEAD, Calif. -- April 23, 2013

Saving energy and money just got easier for customers this summer through the
Save Power Days program with Southern California Edison (SCE) teaming up with
Nest Labs, Inc., owners of the Nest Learning Thermostat.

The collaboration combines the energy-saving rebate program offered by SCE
with the easy-to-use technology that comes with the Nest Learning Thermostat,
which manages one of the largest portions of an average home’s energy
consumption — heating and cooling.

On any weekday when electricity demand is relatively high, SCE can call a Save
Power Days “event” between 2 to 6 p.m. asking for customers to conserve

Nest is a learning thermostat that remembers what temperatures customers like,
creates a custom schedule for the home, and turns itself down when customers
are away. Nest can be remotely controlled to help customers save energy during
a Save Power Days event.

All SCE customers are already automatically enrolled in Save Power Days and
can earn up to $0.75 for every kilowatt hour reduced during the event (based
on the customer’s average weekday usage from 2-6 p.m.). SCE customers who own
an enabling device, such as a Nest Learning Thermostat, can earn $1.25 for
every kilowatt hour saved through Save Power Days Plus.

“Our customers started to benefit from Save Powers Days last year with the
availability of interval usage data gathered by our smart meters,” said Seth
Kiner, vice president of customer programs and services for SCE. “Now
technology is making it possible for third party companies to bring additional
innovations into the energy management ecosystem so customers can save energy
and money more easily.”

Customers who are enrolled to receive alerts will be contacted the day before
a Save Power Days event through text, phone or email, so they can take
appropriate measures to save energy. Even if customers are enrolled in Save
Power Days, there is no obligation to participate.
