Software AG Government Solutions Delivers Award-Winning Technology to Humanitarian Relief Effort Challenge Receives First Place at the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association West PlugFest Business Wire RESTON, Va. -- April 04, 2013 Software AG Government Solutions recently garnered first prize at the annual AFCEA Western Conference PlugFest competition in San Diego, Calif. The PlugFest mission is to create a vehicle for demonstrating the value of industry, academia, and government collaboration to solve government problems using an approach called Rapid Integration Innovation Process (RI2P). PlugFest proves IT interoperability using pre-integrated standards based components, from a variety of providers, which run in open standards based run-time environments across a particular enterprise. The competitors were given several Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) scenarios within which to develop comprehensive solutions. The winning demo from the Software AG Government Solutions team involved a scenario in which several dirty bombs were detonated in a major metropolitan city. The Software AG Government Solutions team built and demonstrated an application that gathered data from multiple sources and providers and applied modeling and simulation techniques to find, track, and predict movement and toxicity of radioactive and hazardous toxic plumes. A key capability demonstrated was the real-time event processing of streaming big data including sensor, geospatial and social media data. One of the resulting analyses showed real-time alerts and complex event processing to predict and detect a plume’s proximity to sensitive areas such as Red Cross shelters where people would be gathered seeking safety. Overall, the solution was designed to illustrate real-time government information sharing and deliver analyzed information to common operational picture (COP) in an actionable, geospatially-enabled display, and manage communications to bandwidth-restricted devices/areas. The solution leveraged elements from both Software AG’s Terracotta and webMethods products. “We are always excited to participate in an event that centers on proving the viability of technology in addressing life-saving scenarios,” said Tod Weber, CEO of Software AG Government Solutions. “In a PlugFest type of environment, where you are only given a matter of hours to build and demonstrate a solution, you get to see which technologies are robust enough to really have an impact on efficiency and effectiveness. This environment provided us with a perfect opportunity to apply our ‘special forces’ approach and truly differentiate our people and our technology. We are proud to receive this award and hope that our demonstration offers interested organizations a high level of confidence in our capabilities.” About Software AG Government Solutions Software AG Government Solutions provides best-in-class software solutions for integration, service-oriented architecture, big data and business process management.
