TIM BRASIL SELECTS NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS TO BUILD 4G LTE NET
Press Release São Paulo, Brazil – April 3, 2013
TIM Brasil selects Nokia Siemens Networks to build 4G LTE network Vendor’s Single RAN to help operator deliver ultra-fast mobile broadband services for upcoming Football Cup events
Customers of TIM Brasil will soon enjoy super-fast 4G LTE (http://www.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/portfolio/products/mobile-broadband/long-te rm-evolution-lte) (long term evolution) mobile broadband (http://www.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/portfolio/products/mobile-broadband) services. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy an LTE network layer on top of the operator’s existing 2G and 3G networks in the 2.6 GHz frequency band.
“Our long-term partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks has been excellent, and the 2G and 3G equipment installed by the company is performing so well that it was a natural decision to deploy an LTE network with the same vendor,” said Marco di Costanzo, Head of Mobile Network, TIM Brasil. “We are confident that Nokia Siemens Networks will build a robust LTE network for us to launch ultra-fast 4G mobile broadband services to satisfy our customers.”
“With our advanced radio network and related services, we will smoothly deploy an LTE network for TIM Brasil so that its subscribers can enjoy reliable connections as well as ultra-fast mobile broadband services,” said Aray Chagas, head of local operators at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We are committed to helping TIM Brasil by improving network coverage and fulfilling the ever-increasing demand for high-speed networks.”
Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver an LTE radio access network featuring its award-winning and high-capacity Flexi Multiradio Base Stations. The Flexi Multiradio Base Station is a Single RAN (radio access network) base station for GSM, 3G, FDD-LTE and TD-LTE. It provides an easy and cost-effective site upgrade to LTE and uses common OSS for multiple technologies. By using the Single RAN Flexi Multiradio Base Station, TIM Brasil can upgrade its site to 2.6 GHz LTE while saving time, space and power consumption – all translating to lower capital costs for the operator.
Nokia Siemens Networks will also upgrade TIM Brasil’s NetAct (http://www.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/portfolio/products/operations-support-syste ms/netact) network management system to enable consolidated and effective monitoring, management and optimization of its network. In addition, the company will deliver its Intelligent Self Organizing Networks (iSON)* (http://eu.vocuspr.com/Url.aspx?519382x22884246x16519376) capability for increased automation and faster rollout.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ complete network life-cycle services will help TIM Brasil move smoothly toward LTE and minimize technical and commercial risks. The high-quality network deployment will be coupled with world-class project management, network optimization as well as feature introduction and maintenance services. By taking advantage of Nokia Siemens Networks’ comprehensive and customized training solutions, TIM Brasil’s engineers will attain sound LTE competencies and capabilities.
Implementation of the LTE network will be done on a city-by-city basis in preparation for the Confederations Cup 2013 and Football World Cup 2014 events.

Notes: * Nokia Siemens Networks’ industry-leading intelligent SON (iSON) is hybrid architecture-based network-integrated automation residing both in the distributed network elements and in the OSS. This ensures that all areas of SON, including self-configuration, self-optimization and self-healing, are addressed efficiently in an unparalleled way, using the highest level of automation and the richest set of features commercially available today.
At the core of iSON is the Nokia Siemens Networks’ market leading multi-technology, multi-vendor NetAct network management system and Flexi Multiradio Base Station supported by core network solutions. The iSON bypasses time-consuming manual processes in network operations to improve operational efficiency and network performance. This is done through automatic, always optimal network settings for handover processes, traffic load balancing and self-healing for secure uninterrupted end-user services coupled with minimizing the need for drive tests. It also helps operators introduce new technologies and expand networks faster with automated site creation.
