Springer Selects Compuware APM to Optimize Online Library Applications

Leading Global Scientific Publisher to Use Compuware dynaTrace for Advanced
                       Performance Insight Capabilities

DETROIT, March 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Compuware Corporation
(Nasdaq:CPWR), the technology performance company delivering a new generation
of APM, today announced that Springer, a global scientific publisher, has
selected Compuware APM -- dynaTrace -- as its application performance
management (APM) solution. With Compuware dynaTrace, Springer will be able to
engineer performance early in new services development and quickly pinpoint
the source of performance bottlenecks in its highly advanced online library
applications. Using Compuware dynaTrace, Springer expects to significantly
improve the responsiveness of its subscription portal and optimise the
experience for end-users.

Springer identified the need for a new generation APM solution when it began
to migrate from its older third-party platform to a new system. The online
portal, now built in-house, is designed to provide end-users with easier and
faster access to publications. Focused on bringing new features and
functionality to the market as quickly as possible while delivering the very
best user experience, Springer chose to develop the new application in Scala.
With this approach, application coding is up to three times shorter than
traditional programming languages. After thoroughly researching the market,
Springer concluded that only Compuware APM was able to support their IT and
business objectives, delivering the required level of visibility into their
systems.

"At a critical point in the development of our new SpringerLink platform,
which is amodern Scala-based application environmentbacked by a MarkLogic^®
Enterprise NoSQL store,Springer had an urgent need to identify the
bottlenecks in its systems," said Ross Heritage, chief architect at Springer.
"Compuware was able to quickly conduct a proof of concept (POC) that showed
that the dynaTrace product would allow our software developersto identifythe
slowest components in ourplatform, giving details down to a code level.
dynaTrace allows our software developers to target and address these problem
areas, thereby helping researchersin ever greater numbersall over the
worldto access vital information on SpringerLink much more quickly."

The new system is also leveraging a big data application architecture relying
on a NoSQL platform. While creating business advantage, both technology
choices increased application complexity and obfuscated visibility into
application performance. As a result, Springer needed a new approach to enable
it to fine-tune its subscription portal during development and optimise its
long-term performance.

"For organizations like Springer, providing quick, reliable and easy access to
the services their customers need to make informed business decisions is a key
requirement," said Michael Allen, EMEA Director of APM Solutions, Compuware.
"As a publishing business, it's essential that Springer can bring new services
to market quickly without compromising on the end-user experience. So, their
decision to create a new and more streamlined platform was a wise and timely
move. With its end-to-end approach to transaction analysis, Compuware
dynaTrace will provide Springer with actionable insights that enable it to
continually improve its highly advanced subscription and online library
applications, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction while retaining a
significant competitive edge in the market."
