Mindspeed Expands Crosspoint Product Line with a Family of High Density
Devices with Data Rates up to 12.5Gbps
Company's High-Performance Analog Solutions Enable At-Speed Switching,
Reducing Latency for Optical Transport and Data Center Applications
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- March 19, 2013
Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of
semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today
announced the expansion of its industry-leading crosspoint portfolio with
160x160, 48x48, 36x36 and 24x24 devices that further extend the world's
broadest line of crosspoint switches.
Today’s ultra-time-sensitive applications demand very low latency that wide
area networks and data centers need to address. An example is financial
trading, where low latency is required for running an efficient, competitive
market, and is viewed as a competitive advantage that delivers increased
profits for firms which can execute transactions faster than their
competitors. In such applications, latency is a frequently used metric that
determines the necessary network and system architecture driving the use of
crosspoints where port-based switching is required.
Mindspeed®’s crosspoints utilize high-performance analog process technology,
enabling at-speed port switching, eliminating the need for SerDes devices and
memory required for store-and-forward packet switching scheme, thus reducing
latency, power consumption and cost. In addition, they feature Mindspeed's
advanced signal-integrity management technology that delivers signal
transmission speeds up to 12.5 Gbps. This signal conditioning technology
enables storage, server and networking systems to support the industry's
migration to higher data rates over backplanes and cabling media.
The new devices further extend the industry's broadest offering of crosspoint
switch switches spanning 2x2 to 288x288 matrix sizes. For communications
applications, the switches support 10 Gigabit Ethernet, optical transport
channel unit 2 (OTU2), 8G and 10G Fibre Channel, 12.5 Gbps for two times RXAUI
and proprietary data rates.

Mindspeed will be showcasing these new crosspoints at the Optical Fiber
Communication Conference and Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers
Conference (OFC/NFOEC 2013), from March 19-21, 2013, in booth number 1174 at
the Anaheim Convention Center.
Mindspeed's under two nanosecond latency crosspoint switches feature
integrated signal-conditioning technology that enables them to send error-free
data at high data rates over difficult channels by compensating for signal
losses accumulated across long board traces. Ideal for high-speed backplane
switching applications, Mindspeed's signal-conditioning technology not only
improves system margin for reliable data transmission, but also enables system
designers to use lower-cost board materials and components.
The M21024, M21036 and M21048 support switch matrix densities of 24x24, 36x36
and 48x48 respectively and operate at data rates up to 11.8Gbps. The M21605
device is a 160x160 switch operating up to 12.5Gbps. The input equalizer is
capable of compensating up to 27 decibels (dB) of loss. The devices also
feature ultra-low jitter, which is a critical requirement for crosspoint
switches of this speed and size. Its transmit drivers feature output
pre-emphasis and adjustable swing for link optimization.
The devices are available now and are packaged as follows: M21024 in 21x21
millimeter (mm), M21036 in 23x23 mm, M21048 in 27x27mm and M21605 in 45x45 mm
ball grid array (BGA).
