SAN FRANCISCO -- March 14, 2013
Wcities, Inc., a leading global provider of city and event guides, today
launched eventseeker, a mobile app that enables individuals to quickly search
for activities in their cities, invite friends to join them at events, and
purchase tickets for concerts, sporting events, festivals, museum exhibitions,
theater shows, nightclubs and community activities.
Eventseeker is a free app for iPhones. It is available at the Apple App Store
and on the web at eventseeker.com. Eventseeker can be used as a standalone app
to search for events, buy tickets, and follow artists, or users can log into
eventseeker via Facebook to take advantage of the app’s social capabilities. A
short video explaining the app’s features and functionality is available on
“Eventseeker adds a completely new dimension to social networking by enabling
friends to actually do things together,” said Fraser Campbell, CEO of Wcities.
“We’re unlocking the power of Facebook to become truly social. After all,
what’s more social than getting a bunch of friends together for a concert or a
baseball game or dancing at your favorite club?”
Through its unique passive personalization, eventseeker scans a user’s
Facebook account to understand the person’s interests, such as their taste in
music, their favorite sports teams, events they’ve attended, and artists
they’re following. The app also scans the music library on a user’s mobile
device for additional information about the user’s preferences. This allows
eventseeker to serve up targeted alerts and recommendations about upcoming
Eventseeker’s smart technology enables the app to identify and recommend
friends in a user’s social network who have similar interests, making it fast
and simple for the user to invite those people to upcoming events.
To celebrate the eventseeker launch, Wcities is giving away VIP tickets to the
Coachella Festival, one of the world’s largest music and arts events. Anyone
interested in a chance to win tickets can enter the online drawing on
The eventseeker database is continuously updated with millions of searchable
events worldwide. Users can search for events by location, date, venue, artist
and event type. The app allows users to view pictures, video and information
about events and artists. And in addition to allowing users to invite friends
to events, users can mark the events they’re planning to attend so friends who
decide to join them at the last minute can easily do so.
Wcities maintains the world’s premier database of travel content, city guides
and event guides. Wcities content is published in multiple languages and
covers more than 400 cities around the world. Wcities content is licensed by
many of the world’s leading airlines, car manufacturers, hotels and search
