Shell Announces Decommissioning of VSAT, Transition to Cybera Next Generation Secure Application Platform Business Wire HOUSTON -- March 14, 2013 Shell Oil Company, the No. 1 selling gasoline brand in the U.S., announced it will migrate its payment card traffic off of the VSAT satellite system at all Shell branded stations by the end of 2013. The scope and speed of this platform change highlights the importance of the transition from VSAT to enable new applications that require broadband Internet connectivity. Shell is replacing the legacy VSAT solution with a next generation secure application platform that works over any form of broadband Internet a store may choose. It also integrates 3G/4G wireless connectivity as a failover to ensure that critical applications such as payment processing are always able to communicate. Also, by selecting a secure application platform, Shell can seamlessly add future apps such as loyalty and point of sale support without the need for any additional hardware. With the deployment of this latest secure application platform, Shell can improve both security and reliability, which reduces fraud risk while providing a vehicle for delivering the future applications that will keep Shell’s retail-branded stores at the forefront of technology. As a replacement to VSAT, stations may choose Cybera ONE secure application platform to become the central network device and application server at each store. The consolidation of multiple devices and network connections facilitated by the Cybera ONE platform not only lowers communications costs at each store, it also reduces support, management and installation costs. “The Cybera ONE solution addresses the whole puzzle from networking, security, broadband connectivity, point-of-sale, loyalty and future application deployment,” saidScott Taylor, business service manager, Shell Oil Products. “The economics of the Cybera ONE solution is truly astounding when compared to the fragmented alternatives or big box retail solutions on the market today.” At the core of Shell’s decision to drive such a dramatic change in its retail store communications infrastructure is implementing a future proof platform that provides a solution for the growth of new interactive customer and revenue generating applications. “Cybera ONE puts Shell’s retail stores in a position for growth and leadership in our industry,” said Cliff Duffey, CEO of Cybera. Additionally, Shell is implementing an incentive program to drive adoption of the Cybera ONE solution across its wholesaler and dealer network. This new incentive program will reduce the upfront cost of the platform for the first 4,000 orders placed from now through June 17^th, rewarding the store owners who make a quick decision to deploy the new platform.
