Iron Mountain Hosts Second Annual Symposium for Law Firms Examining
Information Governance
Law firm information management leaders to expand on information governance
framework and deliver practical industry guidelines for building programs
Business Wire
BOSTON -- March 13, 2013
Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), the storage and information management
services company, is hosting its second annual Law Firm Information Governance
Symposium from March 13-15 in Chicago, once again bringing together some of
the leading information management thought leaders in the legal industry.
Over the three-day symposium, information management professionals will lead a
series of workgroups examining best practices for tackling information
governance in law firms. These professionals include the event’s steering
committee members: Brianne Aul from Reed Smith LLP; Bryn Bowen from Greenheart
Consulting Partners LLC; Leigh Isaacs from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP;
Rudy Moliere from Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP; and Charlene Wacenske from
Morrison & Foerster LLP. Then later this spring, Iron Mountain will publish
their recommendations and invite reaction from the larger legal community. The
2013 report will build on “A Proposed Law Firm Information Governance
Framework,” authored by last year’s symposium participants.
“In the year since the last symposium, we’ve seen an increase in the number of
firms looking for guidance putting governance to work, as their clients want
to know their outside counsel has protocols and processes in place to
safeguard and manage access to their information,” said Carolyn Casey, Esq.,
senior manager, legal vertical for Iron Mountain. “The symposium participants
have done amazing work to lead their industry and help establish common
principles and best practices for information governance. Still, there’s a
collective sentiment among this group that their work is far from finished,
and an eagerness to build upon the platform established by last year’s
symposium and report.”
The stakes for information governance remain high, as law firms evolve to
address increasing security challenges, greater mobility of lawyers and
clients, and growing pressure to make firms more cost efficient and
competitive. In response to this, the symposium workgroups will focus on the
“how to’s” of information governance while incorporating emerging trends
facing information managers at law firms:
* Information Governance “Start-up” – Building an information governance
advisory board comprised of leaders representing multiple functions across
the firm;
* Designing Key Processes – How to apply information governance to key law
firm processes, including information retention/disposition, matter
lifecycle management, and information technology systems administration;
* Securing Information – Guidelines and templates for assessing and managing
information security risks;
* Emerging Trends in Information Governance – Discussion and guidance on
managing “Big Data” and massive volumes of information, new predictive
coding applications for classifying information, and how firms are
responding to the 24/7 information demands of mobile attorneys and
clients.
