About Cooledge Lighting Inc. -- Cooledge is a venture backed start-up
focused on delivering high value solid-state lighting solutions to
the general illumination market. Founded in 2009, Cooledge is
currently in the development stage of the company with the product
launch of light sheet coming at Lightfair 2013 in Philadelphia, PA,
April 23-25, 2013.
Light sheet is a flexible LED lighting system that combines the
mechanical, electrical and LED source together into a flexible sheet
of light. Cooledge's innovative contribution to the emerging LED
space eliminates many of the constraints and challenges that existing
LED systems impose. Luminaire designs using light sheet can be
fluid, thin and minimal in design and material choices.
The development of the light sheet product is based on original
research by professor John Rogers of the University of Illinois. A
key element of Cooledge's proprietary and patented designs includes
applying small LEDs in a highly dense pattern with low drive current.
This novel approach yields light output of 20 lumens per square inch,
luminous efficacies exceeding 100 lumens per Watt, and lumen
maintenance of 50,000 hours. Light sheet runs so efficiently and
cool that no additional heat sink or secondary thermal extraction is
required. The Cooledge light sheet comes in various sizes: with
widths from 1" (28mm) to 11" (280mm) and lengths up to 8' (2.4m).
