NuScale Launches Newly Revamped Company Website Highlighting SMR Technology
PORTLAND, Ore. -- March 7, 2013
NuScale Power LLC announced today that it has launched a newly redesigned and
revamped corporate website that highlights the key features of its small
modular reactor (SMR) technology. The site, www.nuscalepower.com, offers
potential customers and key stakeholders a comprehensive overview of how
NuScale is meeting the need for a safe, simple and economically viable nuclear
solution to the United States’ and world's growing energy demands.
“As part of our of strategy to establish a mechanism to reach out to our key
constituents, we feel this new site provides our customers, regulatory
officials, employees and investors with a snapshot of where the company stands
in the development and commercialization of our SMR design,” said Mike
McGough, NuScale’s chief commercial officer. “I encourage everyone to visit
the newly revamped website so they can learn more about our ground-breaking
design of safe and secure SMR technology.”
Visitors to the new website can better understand the benefits of NuScale’s
SMR design, which is safe, simple, economical and scalable. The site features
high-resolution renderings of the SMR plant design, reactor module and a
cross-section of a typical SMR plant. In addition, the website educates users
on various steps associated with the nuclear regulatory licensing process. The
company's first-of-its-kind SMR control room simulator is also highlighted.
One of the key aspects of the new website is an informative section on the
safety features of the innovative SMR design. The NuScale plant design uses
natural forces for operating and cooling the plant, which eliminates the need
for many of the large and complex systems required in today’s nuclear plants.
NuScale is currently pursuing a federal grant from the U.S. Department of
Energy to help it gain regulatory approval for the SMR technology.
About NuScale Power LLC
NuScale Power LLC is developing an inherently safe, modular, scalable
commercial nuclear power technology. Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR), a global
engineering, procurement and construction company with a 60-year history in
commercial nuclear power, is the majority investor in NuScale. NuScale's
design offers the benefits of carbon-free nuclear power but takes away the
issues presented by the cost of installing large capacity. A nuclear power
plant using NuScale's technology is comprised of individual nuclear power
modules; each produces 45 megawatts of electricity with its own combined
containment vessel and reactor system, and its own designated
turbine-generator set. A power plant can include as many as 12 NuScale
integral PWR modules to produce as much as 540 megawatts. The reactors are
cooled by the natural convection of water and can be shut down safely without
pumps or other mechanical systems. NuScale power plants are scalable -
additional modules are added as customer demand for electricity increases.
NuScale's technology also is ideally suited to supply energy for district
heating, desalination and other applications. For more information
