DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS NAMES ERIC PHILLIPS PRESIDENT, DOMESTIC DISTRIBUTION
Silver Spring, Maryland - March 6, 2013: Discovery Communications announced
today the promotion of Eric Phillips to President, Domestic Distribution,
effective immediately. An accomplished 10-year leader at Discovery, Phillips
most recently served as Executive Vice President, Domestic Distribution for the
company. Bill Goodwyn, President and CEO of Discovery Education and Strategic
Distribution, made the announcement.
Continuing to report to Goodwyn, Phillips will lead day-to-day management of
the Domestic Distribution division and oversee content distribution sales and
marketing on behalf of Discovery's U.S. networks.
"Eric is a fantastic leader, and his contributions to Discovery over the past
decade have been invaluable," said Goodwyn. "Eric will bring his deal acumen
and deep understanding of the distribution marketplace to his role as
president. I look forward to continuing to work with him to guide Discovery
through our future affiliate landscape."
Since joining the company in 2002, Phillips has been responsible for
negotiating carriage agreements with all of the top cable, satellite and telco
distributors for Discovery's 14 U.S. networks as well as overseeing the
business unit's budget, legal and financial compliance efforts and operations.
In 2007, Phillips was promoted to executive vice president, Affiliate
Distribution and chief operating officer of Discovery Education, where he led
sales, strategic business development, budget and operations for the division.
Prior to joining Discovery, Phillips worked at the law firm of Covington &
Burling practicing corporate law. He also served as a law clerk for U.S.
Federal Appeals Court Judge Diana E. Murphy and began his career on Capitol
Hill as a Congressional aide.
