NEW YORK, March 6, 2013

NEW YORK, March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MFA Financial, Inc. (NYSE:  MFA)
announced today that the record date for stockholders entitled to receive the
special cash dividend that it previously announced will be March 18, 2013. 
The Company had previously announced the record date would be March 15, 2013.

On March 4, 2013, the Company announced that its Board of Directors declared a
special cash dividend of $0.50 per share of common stock, which is payable on
April 10, 2013.

MFA is a real estate investment trust primarily engaged in the business of
investment, on a leveraged basis, in Agency and Non-Agency residential
mortgage-backed securities.
