First Time Foundation has Given Grant to an Independent College Preparatory
PHILADELPHIA, March 4, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Springside Chestnut Hill
Academy the independent Pre-K - 12 school in Northwest Philadelphia, today
announced that it has received a single-year grant from The NASDAQ OMX
Educational Foundation for the school's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership
(CEL). The CEL program, launched in September, offers a bold and collaborative
academic experience preparing students to become innovative leaders,
breakthrough thinkers, and imaginative problem solvers. Springside Chestnut
Hill Academy is the only independent school in the Philadelphia area offering
a curriculum rooted in the study of entrepreneurial learning.
CEL has received praise from the National Association of Independent Schools
and faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. CEL was
conceived and launched by SCH Academy President Dr. Priscilla Sands and SCH
Academy Board Chairman and CEO of Urban Outfitters Richard Hayne following
years of study with leaders in higher education and business. Its curriculum
is designed to give students real-life skills preparing them for the world
beyond secondary education. The program is presented through seven "strands"
of curricular study: The Art of Communication, Engineering and New Media,
Entrepreneurship, Ethics, Global Immersion, Leadership and Statistics. The
strands are woven through the existing rigorous core curriculum and are
incorporated through age appropriate study from Pre-K - 12.
"As educators it is our responsibility to teach and expose students to a
curriculum that challenges passive academic thinking. Our children are
developing a mindset that embraces the idea of entrepreneurism throughout the
many aspects of the world in which they live," said Dr. Sands.
