Tests Show DuPont(TM) Teflon(R) Nonstick Coatings for Cookware Outperform and
Outlast "Ceramic" Coatings

Side-by-Side Comparison Shows "Ceramic" Claims Just Don't Stick

CHICAGO, Feb. 28, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - For more than 50 years
of innovation, consumers have relied on cookware with DuPont™ Teflon® nonstick
coatings to give them advanced performance with easy clean-up. DuPont is once
again leading the industry by providing fact-based information to help
consumers make informed decisions.

Today DuPont announced the results of side-by-side testing to enable consumers
make an educated decision when choosing between Teflon® nonstick coatings or
"ceramic" coatings. In repeated tests conducted by DuPont, cookware with
Teflon® nonstick coatings proved to be more durable and continued to offer
superior nonstick food release, outlasting "ceramic" coatings seven-to-one.

"The superior performance and durability of Teflon® nonstick coatings improves
the enjoyment of cooking and makes clean-up easy," said David W. Devoe, North
American marketing manager, DuPont™ Teflon® brand consumer finishes business.
"With Teflon® nonstick coatings, consumers can save money by less frequently
replacing worn out ceramic cookware. Environmentally, this can also mean less
discarded cookware and cookware packaging in landfills, as well as less energy
used in cookware manufacture."

"Ceramic" coatings are made by using sol-gel chemistry to create synthetic
polymer coatings. Consumers should be highly skeptical of marketing claims
that suggest "ceramic" coatings are somehow healthier, greener or more natural
than Teflon® nonstick coatings.

"'Ceramic' coatings are made using a synthesized polymer that does not have a
reasonably lasting nonstick release," said Devoe. "These coatings are
certainly not greener or healthier than the leading nonstick coated cookware
products on the market today."

Contrary to misinformation available on the internet, Teflon® nonstick
coatings have been affirmed safe for use by regulatory agencies around the
world. These coatings are made without using perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).

Teflon® nonstick coatings remain the gold standard for nonstick cookware and
consumers around the world continue to turn to the No. 1 brand of nonstick
coatings for great homemade meals. According to consumer research conducted in
2012, more than two-thirds of consumers use nonstick pots and pans most
frequently, and nearly three-fourths of consumers agree that the best quality
nonstick coating carries the Teflon® brand. For more information, please visit

The DuPont™ Teflon® brand has its origins in the discovery of
polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by DuPont chemist Roy Plunkett 75 years ago. In
1945, just seven years after this innovation, DuPont selected and registered
the Teflon® brand as a trademark. Teflon® nonstick coating systems were first
commercialized for cookware more than 50 years ago in the United States and
have been used to enhance performance in paints, fabrics, carpets, home
furnishings, clothing and so much more. For more information, please visit
