ARCADIS Offers Engineering Expertise Post-Sandy
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- February 5, 2013
ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), a leading international design, consulting,
engineering and management services company remains at the front lines of the
post-Sandy recovery and rebuilding effort in communities hardest hit by the
storm. The company provides expert services and counsel to local governments
and leading businesses on how to recover from Sandy’s devastation and how to
prepare for future severe weather events.
Almost immediately after Hurricane Sandy hit, ARCADIS started supporting
communities in New York and New Jersey by managing the massive debris removal
efforts. After nearly three months, ARCADIS has documented the removal of more
than 2.5 million cubic yards of storm debris, enough debris to fill Madison
Square Garden four times. ARCADIS is the only firm providing debris management
services using HaulPass®, a proprietary electronic debris management system.
In addition to debris management, ARCADIS is under contract with some of the
nation’s largest financial services and telecommunications companies providing
disaster recovery and risk assessment expertise for their facilities in lower
Manhattan where saltwater storm surge flooding was at its worst. ARCADIS
engineers and scientists are consulting with clients on restoration, assessing
conditions and structural integrity of buildings and waterfront
infrastructure. As the focus changes from recovery to preparedness, ARCADIS
experts are also conducting storm surge modeling, flood-proofing and
prevention planning to develop risk reduction strategies for future severe
ARCADIS professionals were on-site immediately after the storm, to assist
municipal wastewater treatment authorities in bringing their facilities back
to normal operation, assessing the storm damage, developing mitigation plans
to avoid future storm impacts, and helping them prepare FEMA and other federal
applications for reimbursement funds.
“As our global climate shifts and severe weather events occur more frequently,
the world’s coastal cities will continue to be at risk,” said Steve Blake, CEO
for ARCADIS US. “The time to start planning is now. Multiple lines of defense
will need to be considered in a comprehensive protection strategy. We gained
significant insight and expertise while designing the Hurricane Storm Damage
Risk Reduction System that protected New Orleans from the effects of Hurricane
Isaac just 60 days before Sandy devastated the East Coast.”
