CFA Society Toronto Announces Ontario university finalists for the CFA Institute Research Challenge
TORONTO, Jan. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - CFA Society Toronto has chosen four Ontario university teams as finalists for the annual CFA Institute Research Challenge, a global equity research competition among student teams from elite business and finance programs.
Student teams from the following universities will present their research and analysis of the subject company, Canadian dollar store operator Dollarama, to a panel of financial industry professionals in Toronto on February 13, 2013, at the Royal Bank of Canada:
-- Queen's School of Business
-- University of Toronto Scarborough
-- University of Waterloo
-- Wilfrid Laurier University
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a unique educational competition for
students that allows participants to assume the role of investment research
analysts. The annual competition offers participants the opportunity to
develop and present an equity research report on a locally relevant company
and compete on a global basis with peers from top business schools. Each team
works with a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder who mentors the
team during the research process and reviews and critiques its report.
This annual educational initiative is designed to promote best practices in
equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on
mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills.
"CFA Society Toronto's commitment to education encompasses both current and
future investment professionals. Participation in CFA Institute's Research
Challenge is an important step students can take leading them to future
success." said Peter S. Jarvis, CFA, Executive Director of CFA Society Toronto.
This year, more than 3,500 students and 650 universities in more than 55
countries will participate in local Challenge events, culminating in a
global final in London in April 2013. The winning team will be determined
based on the quality of its written analysis and presentation. This team will
qualify for the Americas Regional competition to be held in Toronto on March
21, 2013. The regional winner will advance to the global final in London, UK
in April.
