Toyloom, Maker of 3-D Toy Heirlooms, Debuts on Kickstarter Business Wire LOS ANGELES -- January 9, 2013 Every parent struggles with how best to preserve their child’s artwork. Each creation is precious, but what to do with them other than file them away to be discovered years later? Enter Toyloom, the company that will turn your child’s work of art into a 3-D toy heirloom using the same techniques used to create models for Hollywood movie special effects. Toyloom is making its debut on Kickstarter on Wednesday, January 9, with a goal of generating $15,000 in initial funding to make this new concept in toy personalization a reality. There are multiple donation options on the Kickstarter page, each with an exclusive Toyloom product or service in return, however everyone that supports Toyloom will receive a link to the full library of artwork, showcasing the dreams and creativity of children from around the world. Toyloom is the brainchild of Hollywood special effects artist Dan Garr, who is most recognized for his work on the 1/8 and 1/6 scale models used by James Cameron in the blockbuster Titanic, which are seen in the infamous “cracking and sinking” scene. In 1992 he founded his company Hot Buttered Elves, and today is known for toy inventing, character sculpting, product development, creating toys and collectibles for clients such as Lucasfilm, Pixar, Warner Bros. and Disney, among others. Says Dan, “I have made toys for over 20 years, but never like this. When a child sees his or her artwork displayed in this manner, it creates a memory that is unforgettable.” The Toyloom process begins with the submission of an original piece of artwork to the website, www.toyloom.com, and the selection of a few personalizing options. Toyloom then utilizes 3D modeling, rapid prototyping machines and the expertise of Dan and the Hot Buttered Elves team to create the ultimate in collectible artwork. Toyloom offers several end product options: a 4-inch refrigerator magnet or ornament, Shadowbox mounting, Storybook Frame or Comic Book Frame. The Storybook Frame and Shadowbox present the child’s original artwork and the 3-D Toyloom character. The Comic Book Frame is sculpted in 3-D, like a stack of comics, and your child’s artwork pops right through the front page. All frames can be personalized. Prices range from $100 to $200.
