BIOLASE Completes Sale of Last WaterLase MD Turbo Laser Systems

BIOLASE Completes Sale of Last WaterLase MD Turbo Laser Systems
Repurchased From Schein
Strong Demand for WaterLase Continues
IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/08/13 -- BIOLASE, Inc. (NASDAQ:
BIOL), the world's leading dental laser manufacturer and distributor,
announced today that the Company has sold the last of the 159
WaterLase(R) MD Turbo(TM) laser systems it repurchased earlier this
year from Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC) ("Schein").
The Company had initially planned to use a portion of the purchased
Schein inventory as a source of parts to service its large installed
base of MD Turbo laser systems. However, due to the high demand for
the equipment, all of the re-purchased laser systems were ultimately
sold. BIOLASE repurchased the units from Schein at a very
advantageous price under a February 2012 agreement and sold them
throughout the last three quarters at margins consistent with its
other laser products.
Federico Pignatelli, Chairman and CEO of BIOLASE, said, "The strong
demand for these WaterLase MD Turbo laser systems over the past three
quarters along with a period of consistent growth in the direct sales
of our flagship WaterLase iPlus(TM) to end users in North America,
demonstrate the benefits and effectiveness of having a wide range of
WaterLase products."
About WaterLase
BIOLASE's patented WaterLase technology combines its
proprietary 2,780nm YSGG laser energy, air, and water that all
emanate from its patented hand piece to symbiotically excite water
molecules from within both the spray and the target tissue. This
results in a biological ablation of both hard- and soft-tissue.
Currently, BIOLASE offers several variations of WaterLase laser
systems, including the flagship iPlus, the mid-priced MDX(TM) 450 and
300, and lower priced certified pre-owned MD Turbos.
