"In our attempts to make roads of TSL Works safer for commuters, the
Company has constantly been encouraging workers to use the existing bus
service in factory premises. In that process, parking lots have been made
near major gates from which contractor workers enter, so that they can park
their bicycles, motor cycles etc there and board buses plying within the
Works. This initiative has been operating very successfully for more than
an year, at one of the gates (JMD gate). The Company has been attempting to
gradually implement this at another gate (Auction Yard gate) for the past
one week. This initiative was also aimed at making the equipment Stores
near the gate more secure from consistent attempts of theft by miscreants.
"Today, however, several miscreants tried to enter the Works forcefully at
the time of entry of contractors’ workers in the morning. They broke the
gate and jumped over the boundary walls to enter Works. When confronted,
the mob suddenly turned violent, injured 15-20 of our security personnel,
damaged cars, burnt Few two wheelers anddamaged Company property inside
Pellet firing by our security personnel took place to bring the unruly mob,
under control. In the process, five persons, including one photo
journalist, were also injured. All of them are presently being treated at
Tata Main Hospital (TMH) and they are out of danger.
Meanwhile, routine work is on. This activity has not impacted our scheduled
activities inside the plant.
We are looking into the matter to ascertain the reasons behind this
unfortunate event. The Management will take all steps to ensure that such
incidences do not take place in future."
