GE Marine Announces 16 Engine Deliveries for 2013 at International WorkBoat
*GE Marine to supply four engines to new customer Hyak Maritime
*GE Marine to supply 12 engines to existing customer Weeks Marine, Inc.
NEW ORLEANS -- December 06, 2012
Today at the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, GE Marine announced
orders to deliver L250 and V250 engines to new and repeat North American
customers. A combined total of 16 engines have been ordered for newbuilds and
repowers by new customer Hyak Maritime and by an existing customer of GE
Marine, Weeks Marine, Inc.
GE Marine manufactures medium-speed engines that are fuel-efficient,
emissions-compliant, dependable, long-lasting and durable. In addition, GE
Marine’s global distributor network provides regional support and service for
GE Marine’s engine portfolio.
Headquartered in Delaware, Hyak Maritime selected GE engines for the main
propulsion of two 120-foot ASD Titan Class tugs. GE Marine will provide four
2,679 horsepower 8L250 engines to power these tugs.
One of the largest marine dredging and tunneling contractors in the United
States and Canada, Weeks Marine, Inc. has ordered four 6L250 and eight 16V250
engines to power and repower dredge pumps, serve as main propulsion and power
These GE Marine L250 and V250 engines are ABS classed and meet U.S. EPA Tier 2
and MARPOL standards. GE Marine was selected by these customers for its speed
of delivery, engine performance and for the exceptional support from GE’s
local distributors, Cummins Mid-South LLC in New Orleans for Weeks Marine,
Inc., and Hatton Marine in Seattle for Hyak Maritime.
GE's family of medium-speed marine diesel engines includes 8-, 12- and
16-cylinder V configurations, as well as 6- and 8-cylinder inline or L
configurations. The L250’s inline design offers maintenance ease and repower
because its narrow footprint considers engine room constraints. This engine
offers an average 9% fuel savings when compared to GE Marine’s previous
generation of marine engines under Tier 2 conditions. GE Marine’s V250 engine
is emissions-compliant and fuel-efficient, delivering a fuel savings up to
6.5% under EPA Tier 2 conditions compared to earlier models offered by GE
