L.A. Denny’s Helping the Homeless One Quarter at a Time Business Wire LOS ANGELES -- December 05, 2012 According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, more than 50,000 people in Los Angeles have no permanent home. To help these individuals find a path back to success, Los Angeles Denny’s are raising funds for The Giving Spirit, a nonprofit organization that assembles and distributes bags filled with supplies to Los Angeles’ homeless. But they’re not asking guests to pull out their checkbooks or empty their wallets. Instead, they’re asking for your change. “We know our guests are asked to give so much, especially during the holidays,” said Brian Tademy, Denny’s senior field marketing director for the western region. “That’s why we’re trying to make change with change. Many of L.A’s homeless lost their jobs and homes in the recession. Others are military veterans struggling to return to civilian life after deployment. Others still suffer from illness or addiction. Whatever the individual’s story that led them to homelessness, they could benefit from a hand up.” Since 1999, The Giving Spirit has directly helped more than 22,000 homeless men, women and children in the Greater Los Angeles area. Each June and December, The Giving Spirit assembles kits filled with food and supplies to help L.A.’s homeless survive the elements. From blankets to cereal bars, hats to bottled water, each kit costs approximately $65 to fill, so every quarter collected in Denny’s fundraiser will make a big difference. “In this struggling economy, many Americans are just a few missed paychecks away from homelessness,” said Tom Bagamane, founder and chairman of The Giving Spirit. “On behalf of the 50,000-plus homeless living in the greater Los Angeles area, I thank Denny’s and its generous guests for their support.” About Denny's Corp.
