Intertek Acquires LME Approved LSI Metals Assay Laboratory

Business Wire

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands -- November 26, 2012

Intertek, a leading provider of quality testing, inspection and safety
services to a wide range of industries around the world, has acquired Dutch
metals testing Laboratory Services International B.V. (LSI).

LSI, a London Metal Exchange (LME) approved assay facility, provides exchange
and umpire analysis services for non-ferrous metals and concentrates as well
as ferro-alloys. Registered in the Netherlands, LSI services producers,
traders and end users of metals and minerals with high quality commercial
settlement analytical services on a global basis. The LSI acquisition provides
Intertek immediate entry into the global non-ferrous metals and metals
concentrate as well as ferro-alloy inspection and testing market.

As a commercial non-ferrous metals and metal concentrate testing facility, LSI
gives Intertek a European based, LME approved, 3rd party, independent party
assay exchange and umpire assay facility.

LSI provides party assay exchange assay and umpire laboratory services, using
advanced instrumental techniques (XRF, ICP), classical procedures (wet
chemistry) and “fire assay” to determine metal purities and concentrations,
producing impartial data which is used by clients for commercial settlement
purposes.

John Fowler, Vice President, Global Minerals, said, “There are attractive
market advantages for LSI inside the Intertek organization. LSI has a
reputation for strong management and technical credibility in non-ferrous
metal and concentrate assaying services. When combined with Intertek’s global
inspection services network, opportunities for expansion are created.”

Jay Gutierrez, Executive Vice President, Commodities, said, “With LSI now part
of Intertek’s global minerals operations team, a smooth integration with our
global inspection and testing services is underway. LSI’s technical and
managerial expertise in commercial assays will strengthen and broaden the
capabilities of the Intertek minerals trade team.”
