NEWTOWN, Pa. -- November 26, 2012

HeartSine^® Technologies, Inc., a world leader in personal and public access
defibrillators, announced today that it has signed an agreement with American
Airlines (AMR) to become the supplier of automated external defibrillators
(AEDs) to the airline. American Airlines, which is headquartered in Fort
Worth, TX, is one of the world’s largest commercial airlines. HeartSine will
supply samaritan® PAD 300P AEDs that will be installed in all aircraft in the
American Airlines and American Eagle fleets, as well as in all ground
operations and offices. AEDs are designed for the lifesaving treatment of
sudden cardiac arrest.

Marc Lawrence, senior vice president, HeartSine Technologies, notes,
“HeartSine Technologies’ innovators have been at the forefront of placing
life-saving technology in the hands of users of all skill levels since the
1960s, with the development of the world’s first out-of-hospital defibrillator
designs. Today, with our agreement with American Airlines, we’re honored to
work with a company of innovators in their own right. In 1997, American
Airlines became the first U.S. carrier to begin equipping its aircraft with
automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and later was among the very first
U.S. airlines to equip its entire fleet – about 700 aircraft – with the units.
Over the years, AEDs have helped American and its flight crews save many
passenger lives. We’re honored to help write the next chapter of that
lifesaving story with the people of American Airlines. Commercial aviation
industry is an important market for us and we look forward to serving others
in the industry soon as well.”

HeartSine’s Pad-Pak™ electrode and battery cartridge, designed for its
samaritan® PAD 300P AEDs, now carries the Federal Aviation Administration’s
TSO-C142a certification, so it’s qualified for use on commercial aircraft.
This Technical Standard Order (TSO) applies to non-rechargeable lithium cells
and batteries intended for commercial aviation use. The FAA requires all
commercial aircraft with more than 19 seats to carry an AED onboard.

Thomas N. Bettes, M.D., MPH, American Airlines’ Corporate Medical Director and
the 2012 winner of the Airlines Medical Directors Association’s (AMDA) George
J. Kidera Award, notes, “A lot of factors went into our choice of the
samaritan PAD 300P. First and foremost was their partnership approach to our
business. HeartSine’s total solution combined a clinically superior AED with
an operations model that we just couldn’t find anywhere else. From a clinical
perspective, the proprietary SCOPE™ Biphasic technology in their AED optimizes
first shock conversions, which is so critical to treating sudden cardiac

Bettes continued, “We were also very attracted to their Pad-Pak design, which
integrates the battery and electrodes into a single self-contained cartridge,
reducing the number of time-sensitive items my department must procure and
inventory, as well as the number of expiration dates we have to manage. We
also appreciate the advantages of HeartSine’s smaller, lighter-in-weight unit
in terms of annual fuel cost savings.”

About SCA: When sudden cardiac arrest occurs, the heart stops pumping blood
to the rest of the body (including the brain) and the victim quickly loses
consciousness. CPR alone will not restart the heart. The American Heart
Association recommends defibrillation within three to five minutes for the
best outcome. After five minutes and for every minute thereafter, an
individual loses 10 percent of his or her brain function due to loss of
oxygen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an
SCA event occurs once every 34 seconds.
