Capgemini Chooses Vertica Analytics Platform to Maximize Value of Big
Data
Initial Offering Targets Improving Analytics Performance for Any
Company
CAMBRIDGE, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/14/12 -- HP (NYSE: HPQ) -- HP
Vertica, a leading real-time analytics platform, and Capgemini, one
of the world's foremost providers of consulting, technology and
outsourcing services, today announced that the companies are
partnering to deliver service offerings that address the growing need
for cost-effective real-time analytics of Big Data.
Capgemini is launching a number of Big Data Analytic offerings for
its customers. One of the first to be released in North America is
geared toward improving the performance of analytics for customers in
a variety of industries. As part of the service, Capgemini will
assess the customer's existing analytics infrastructure and recommend
where the customer would benefit from faster queries, reduced costs
and real-time analytics. Sample results show analytics processes
going from hours to minutes, and minutes to seconds.
"Organizations struggle with turning massive amounts of structured,
semistructured and unstructured data into business insights, cost
effectively and in near real time," said Colin Mahony, senior vice
president and general manager, Vertica, HP. "We're working with
Capgemini to give our joint customers the ability to leverage Big
Data insights into innovative products, services and offers that
drive competitive advantage."
"Many of our clients are struggling to analyze the massive amounts of
data they generate through operations and other sources, like social
media and customer service calls," said Scott Schlesinger, vice
president and head, Business Information Management, Capgemini North
America. "By partnering with HP Vertica, our customers can combine
all of their available data sources and analyze that data over larger
time periods, all with very fast response times, allowing them to get
a clear picture of what's happening in their business right now."
Capgemini also will launch service offerings based on the HP Vertica
Analytics Platform, enabling customers to make the most of their Big
Data. In addition to the service offering geared at improving
analytics performance, other service offerings will include:

-- Marketing and Social Media: In order to develop a holistic view of
their customers, organizations need to combine the web interactions
and social sentiment with historic transactions, as well as text data
stored in contact center logs. HP Vertica offers in-database analytics
capabilities, as well as a library of analytic functions, that are
geared toward helping companies make the most of their web and social
    media data.
-- Predictive Maintenance: In industries like communications,
transportation, manufacturing and energy, the operations teams need to
continually analyze system data for maintenance and repair.
Traditional data warehouses require massive amounts of storage, and
the analytics performance -- even on summarized or aggregated data --
was poor. With HP Vertica's aggressive compression, Capgemini
customers can reduce their hardware costs while increasing the amount
of historic data they can store and analyze. Typical customers were
able to increase the amount of historic data that they store and
analyze from weeks to months, or even years, on commodity hardware
that cost a fraction of the price, all offering better performance for
    their queries.

"The HP Vertica platform will help us provide our clients with a very
fast and scalable database using commodity hardware," said Manuel
Sevilla, chief information officer, Global Business Information
Management, Capgemini. "Its ability to handle huge volumes of data
and its easy integration with Hadoop, make HP Vertica a natural
leader in the Big Data area."
