CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the
analytic data solutions company, announced today that BlueCross^® BlueShield^®
of Tennessee (BCBST), a leader in delivering innovative health care products,
services and information to more than 3 million members, has selected Teradata
for its Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) analytic platform. BCBST has deployed
the new Data Warehouse Appliance along with the Teradata Health Care Logical
Data Model.

"The CDW will facilitate our organization's ability to analyze ever larger and
more diverse data sets to provide the analytic insight we need to meet our
members' needs and help better control the cost of health care in Tennessee,"
said Nick Coussoule, chief information officer, BCBST.

Coussoule said the new system will help BCBST analyze multiple terabytes of
detailed data linked to millions of health insurance claims, patient
experiences, doctors, hospitals, treatments, procedures and enrollment groups
to answer complex questions and gain valuable insight into trends, costs and
quality of care. "A key consideration in our selection process was Teradata's
ability to fully comply with BCBST's stringent security policy that requires
all BCBST data at rest be fully encrypted," Coussoule added. BlueCross
BlueShield of Tennessee recently completed a $6 million effort to encrypt all
at-rest data throughout its enterprise, giving members peace of mind that
their personal information is secure.

"Our use of the new Teradata warehouse appliance – and the health care logical
data model - will support complex analysis for strategic and operational
intelligence, and requires real-time data load, with immediate information
access to support the needs of a growing clinical practice," said Sherri Zink,
vice president of Medical Informatics for BCBST, who manages the new clinical
data warehouse. "The appliance will help us to identify the pattern variations
in our delivery of treatment and identify best practices that produce optimal
care and outcomes for our members."

The BCBST CDW mission is "to (1) improve clinical practice, (2) improve
BCBST's ability to help manage the quality of health care and (3) provide
policy makers with the ability to assess the impact of system changes on
outcomes, quality, access, cost, and use of health care resources."

"Teradata helps leading companies like BCBST improve operating efficiencies
and uncover new business insights that create competitive differentiation.
This is accomplished through the ability to execute detailed analysis, cutting
complex query times from weeks and days to minutes and seconds," said Rick
Morton, vice president, Teradata financial services, insurance and health care
industries. "Companies generally consider Teradata an 'ROI buy' due to the
impressive economic returns so many of them experience as a result of the high
speed, scalability and workload performance of our systems."

Teradata's momentum continues in the health care industry as companies look
for more powerful database analytics to help them thrive in the midst of cost
pressures, significant competition and the changes driven by health reform.

Teradata's health care customers include BKK (Germany), the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centene, Express Scripts Inc., Aurora,
Highmark, BCBS of North Carolina, INPS (Italy), Medibank Private (Australia),
and many others.
