STRIKE MULTI-YEAR GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION DEAL FOR FEATURE FILMS
LOS ANGELES, CA, November 13, 2012-- Universal Pictures and
Michael D. Eisner’s Tornante Company announced today a multi-year worldwide distribution deal for feature films. Under the
deal, Universal will market and distribute films fully financed
Eisner, who founded The Tornante Company, a privately held
company that invests in, acquires, and operates companies in
media and entertainment, also founded Vuguru, an independent
studio that develops and finances scripted, story-driven content
for digital and international platforms including The Booth at
the End on Hulu and Little Women BIG CARS on AOL. Vuguru has
multi-project licensing and distribution deals with AOL and
Yahoo! and recently announced a major output deal with
FremantleMedia Enterprises for international distribution of
future Vuguru titles.
Through Tornante, Eisner and Madison Dearborn Partners acquired
The Topps Company, the leading creator and marketer of sports
cards, distinctive confectionery, and other entertaining
products for well over 50 years.
Before launching The Tornante Company in 2005, Eisner held the
position of Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at The Walt
Disney Company for 21 years, transforming it from a film and
theme park company with $1.8 billion in enterprise value into a
global media empire valued now at $100 billion. Prior to that,
Eisner was President of Paramount Pictures, turning out hit
films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saturday Night Fever,
Grease, and Terms of Endearment.
