CDTi's Catalyzed Diesel Particulate Filter Technology Approved for Patent Grant VENTURA, Calif., Nov. 8, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clean Diesel Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:CDTI) ("CDTi"), a cleantech emissions control company, is pleased to announce that its Catalyst Division was notified by the United States Patent and Trademark Office that its platinum group metal-free catalyzed diesel particulate filter ("DPF") technology has been approved for patent. When combined with a diesel oxidation catalyst, this breakthrough DPF technology — which utilizes absolutely no costly platinum group metals, or "PGMs" — reduces harmful particulate matter produced by diesel engines by over 95 percent. Various methods to reduce harmful diesel engine exhaust have been used worldwide in response to increasingly stringent regulations put in place by government agencies, but these methods generally require the use of precious metals which are expensive and often have performance limitations. The granting of this patent is a significant acknowledgement of the unique performance of CDTi's PGM-free, or "base metal," Mixed Phase Catalyst (MPC®) technology for the removal of particulate matter, or "soot," from diesel engines. CDTi believes that with this patent grant, they offer the only low temperature-burning, PGM-free catalyst technology in the marketplace. The result is a much more cost effective and efficient solution than competing technologies. "Receipt of this patent grant is an important milestone on our path to protecting our innovative products based upon our MPC® technology platform," said Dr. Steve Golden, Chief Technology Officer of CDTi. "We are pleased about the expanding commercialization of our base metal catalyzed diesel particulate filter technology – which began in 2011̶ as it offers a very robust and proven low-temperature pathway for soot removal. Under the recent London Low Emission Zone program, our Purifier™ particulate filter systems featuring this novel technology were installed on over 2,500 vehicles. Perhaps even more exciting is that we have a new Purifilter® product utilizing this technology which is currently being evaluated by the California Air Resources Board ("CARB") and Environmental Protection Agency and we expect to receive their product verifications in the near future. Verification of this product will broaden our portfolio of solutions available to fleet owners for the retrofitting of their vehicles under the current CARB truck and Bus mandate." CDTI's patented and patent-pending technologies are suitable for OEM and retrofit vehicle applications, such as on-road trucks and buses as well as numerous off-road applications, including construction, mining, ports and material handling. About CDTi CDTi is a vertically integrated global manufacturer and distributor of emissions control systems and products, focused on the heavy duty diesel and light duty vehicle markets. CDTi utilizes its proprietary patented Mixed Phase Catalyst (MPC®) technology, as well as its ARIS® selective catalytic reduction, Platinum Plus® fuel-borne catalyst, and other technologies to provide high-value sustainable solutions to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and lower the carbon intensity of on- and off-road engine applications.
