                       CATERPILLAR INC. FILES FORM 8-K

PEORIA, Ill.- 6 November 2012 -  Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT / NYSE  Euronext: 
CATR / LSE: CTA)   informs its stockholders  that today, a  Form 8-K has  been 
filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") with respect to
the retirement of a corporate officer.      

On November  2, 2012,  Caterpillar  entered into  an Equity  Compensation  and 
Supplemental Pension  Agreement with  Richard P.  Lavin, Group  President,  in 
connection with  Mr.  Lavin's  retirement from  the  company.   As  previously 
disclosed, Mr.  Lavin  is  expected  to retire  from  the  company,  effective 
December 31, 2012.

Form 10-Q, Form  10-K and Form  11-K; proxy materials;  ownership reports  for 
insiders as required by Section 16(a)  of the U.S. Securities Exchange Act  of
