QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - CO(2) Solutions Inc. (TSX-V: CST), an
innovator in the field of enzyme-enabled carbon capture technology, announced
today that it has been granted Canadian patent 2,738,061, "PROCESS FOR CO(2)
the use of a biocatalyst, including the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, for the
efficient capture of carbon dioxide where the biocatalyst is attached to, or
enclosed in a small particle support.
Primary applications of the patent include high temperature CO(2) capture and
production processes and mineral carbonation opportunities where the
biocatalyst may be retained in the CO(2) absorption phase to reduce
denaturation and losses in the mineral material, respectively. The company
believes that the patent may have significant potential for application in the
Alberta oil sands, an area of current opportunity for CO(2) Solutions, where
pure CO(2) can be produced at high process temperatures for Enhanced Oil
Recovery or geologic sequestration. The patent may be viewed at
"We are very pleased to receive this patent which provides a process option in
a number of large industry applications, including in oil and gas production,"
stated Glenn Kelly, President and CEO of CO(2) Solutions. "It further
strengthens our already significant intellectual property in Canada and adds
important value to our technology scale-up and commercialization program."
About CO(2) Solutions Inc.
CO(2) Solutions is an innovator in the field of enzyme-enabled carbon capture
and has been actively working to develop and commercialize the technology for
stationary sources of carbon pollution. CO(2) Solutions' technology lowers
the cost barrier to Carbon Capture, Sequestration and Utilization (CCSU),
positioning it as a viable CO(2) mitigation tool, as well as enabling industry
to derive profitable new products from these emissions. CO(2) Solutions has
built an extensive patent portfolio covering the use of carbonic anhydrase, or
analogues thereof, for the efficient post‐combustion capture of carbon
dioxide with low‐energy aqueous solvents. Further information can be found
