                       Statement re. Press Speculation

                                       

Further to  recent media  reports regarding  Nafta Industrija  Srbije AD,  the 
Serbian oil and gas company controlled  by OAO Gazprom Neft, Ascent  Resources 
plc, the AIM listed  European oil and gas  production and exploration  company 
confirms it is in negotiations with a  number of parties regarding a farm  out 
of its Slovenian asset.  At this point, there can be no guarantee an agreement
will  be  reached.   The  Company  will  make  any  further  announcement,  if 
appropriate, in due course.
