Rendez-Vous 2012 - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis - The Fall Season's Grand
Montréal Rendez-Vous - Heading toward the last five years of the 2007-2017
Action Plan
MONTREAL, Oct. 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - At a press conference held to announce
the Rendez-Vous2012 - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis, Montréal Mayor
Gérald Tremblay very proudly mentioned a number of accomplishments that bear
witness to the progress achieved in the past five years. The Mayor recalled
that "Montréal's culture is getting positive media attention. The mid-course
reunion that will take place at TOHU on November 26 is very important in order
to take note of what progress has been made, identify our priorities and give
all of us the momentum needed to continue advancing until the end of 2017."
Rendez-Vous2012 - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis will therefore be as large
a gathering as possible of all Montréal stakeholders, all areas of
intervention combined, to share their ideas and projects, build together a
coherent vision of Montréal's development as a cultural metropolis in order
to promote networking and new partnerships between the various stakeholders,
and particularly between the artistic community and the business world and to
consolidate the strategic importance of culture in the metropolis' development.
Simon Brault, Steering Committee Chairman of Montréal, Cultural Metropolis is
convinced that "Montréal must be a world-class cultural metropolis to enrich
the quality of life of its residents, for those who visit this city or those
who want to settle or do business here, for Québec as a whole that beams with
pride and reaps the benefits, and for Canada, which counts on its major cities
to ensure its development."
The objective of this special day is to bring together—mid-course in their
pursuit of the 2007-2017 Action Plan—partners who each have a contribution
to make. The Rendez-Vous2012 will therefore turn their attention to the
three major focuses:
Local Montréal - Cultural development of the metropolis on a local scale: The
development of cultural districts, because a cultural metropolis must
experience its culture in all its facets; the resident at the heart of
cultural action, as an active participant and not only as a spectator.
Global Montréal - The international outreach of Montréal, Cultural
Metropolis: More than ever, the national and international outreach of
Montréal's cultural activity is "on the agenda".
The new funding models: Investments in culture aren't waning in Montréal,
neither public nor private ones. This trend must be maintained and its impacts
must be maximized in order to build economic models that are resilient,
renewable and sustainable.
"The contribution of participants in all areas of activity is necessary in
order to ensure the expansion of the Rendez-Vous 2012 and create a unique
place for action and creativity. We are counting on the participation of as
many parties as possible so that they share with us both their experiences and
their accomplishments that are making our cultural metropolis grow every day,"
pointed out Manuela Goya, Secretary General of the Steering Committee of
Montréal, Cultural Metropolis."
Rendez-Vous2012 - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis is therefore of unique
importance in the path leading to the completion of the 2007-2017 Action Plan
- Montréal, Cultural Metropolis. It is the ultimate opportunity for the
stakeholders in all areas of activity to support, enrich and consolidate the
Action Plan so that the vision of Montréal, Cultural Metropolis, already well
on its way, is ready in time for the celebrations marking the year of the
50thanniversary of Expo67, the 150th anniversary of the Canadian
Federation and, of course, the 375th anniversary of Montréal.
This ambitious project, which will confirm Montréal's reputation nationally
and internationally, would not have been possible without the efforts of the
Steering Committee. It should be mentioned that the members of the Steering
Committee of Montréal, Cultural Metropolis are as follows:Simon Brault,
Chairman of CultureMontréal and Chairman of the Steering Committee; Helen
Fotopulos, member of Ville de Montréal's Executive Committee responsible for
Culture, Heritage, Design and the Status of Women; Diane Giard, Executive
Vice-President - Personal and Commercial Banking, National Bank of Canada;
Maka Kotto, Minister of Culture and Communications; Michel Leblanc, President
and CEO, Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal; Jean-François Lisée,

well as Minister responsible for the Montréal region; the Honourable James

Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Québec;
Javier San Juan, President and CEO, L'Oréal Canada; Alexandre Taillefer,

Chairman of the Rendez-Vous2012 - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis. It should
also be pointed out that Manuela Goya is Secretary General of the Steering
Committee of Montréal, Cultural Metropolis.
The 2007-2017 Action Plan - Montréal, Cultural Metropolis was approved at the
Rendez-Vous2007. This 10-year action plan is designed to consolidate and
enhance Montréal's positioning as a cultural metropolis. Residents' greater
access to culture, investments in cultural infrastructures, financing artistic
organizations, increasing the number of cultural and tourist events and wider
recognition of Montréal nationally and internationally are all essential to
reaching this objective.
