Toyota to Conduct Autumn Traffic-safety Campaign

Toyota to Conduct Autumn Traffic-safety Campaign

Toyota City, Japan, Sept 14, 2012 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will conduct its yearly autumn traffic-safety campaign from September 21 to October 31 to coincide with the Japanese government's autumn nationwide campaign, which runs from September 21 to 30. A total of 418 companies consisting of vehicle dealers, logistics systems companies, forklift dealers, parts distributors and vehicle rental/lease dealers will participate in the TMC campaign.

The campaign will focus on advising drivers to turn on their headlights in the hours before sunset as well as advising pedestrians to wear reflective material at night. Approximately 840,000 educational flyers will be distributed at vehicle dealers and at other locations nationwide.

As Japanese society continues to age, TMC believes that increased visibility of pedestrians is increasingly important for accident prevention during the early evening and at night. According to Japanese National Police Agency statistics, in 2011, pedestrians accounted for approximately 37 percent of traffic fatalities or injuries, with approximately 75 percent of the incidents occurring in the two hours before sunset or at night. Furthermore, approximately 60 percent of the victims were 65 years of age or older.

TMC hopes to contribute to the reduction of such accidents through the campaign.

The Toyota Traffic-safety Campaign, having been held every spring and autumn since 1969, is now in its 44th year.
