Four Honored with SAE International Henry Ford II Distinguished Award for
Excellence in Automotive Engineering

WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SAE International
presented four recipients with the Henry Ford II Distinguished Award for
Excellence in Automotive Engineering during the SAE 2012 World Congress held
in Detroit.
This award, established in 1988, recognizes SAE International members and
teams who use their engineering skills to achieve product or manufacturing
process contributions, which are assessed to have had the greatest positive
effect on the passenger car, truck and bus industries. The award is named
after Henry Ford II to honor his memory and enormous impact on the mobility
industry.
Those receiving awards included:
o Ching-Hung Chuang, Technical Expert, Ford Motor Company
o Yan Fu, Technical Expert, Ford Motor Company
o Guosong Li, Research Engineer, Ford Motor Company
o Ren-Jye Yang, Senior Technical Leader, Ford Motor Company
An employee of the Ford Motor Company for more than 20 years, Dr. Chuang has
the responsibility to develop multi-disciplinary design optimization (MDO)
methodology and process for vehicle performance improvement and weight
reduction by considering safety, durability attributes and vehicle program
applications. He has published more than 40 journal and conference papers and
two U.S. patents.
Dr. Chuang, a certified Six-Sigma Black Belt, holds a bachelor's degree in
hydraulics engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University, a master's degree
in Power Mechanical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University and a PhD
in Engineering Mechanics from Old Dominion University.
Joining Ford Research and Advanced Engineering in 1999, Dr. Fu currently
serves the role of an optimization and robust design technical expert. She has
led the developments and applications of advanced optimization and robust
design technologies for vehicle safety design, which enable many of the Ford
vehicle programs to achieve Insurance Institute for Highway Top Safety Pick
Award and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration New Car Assessment
Program 5-Star, as well as meet or exceed requirements mandated by the new
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Dr. Fu is a member of SAE International, American Society of Mechanical
Engineers and International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making. She
received her bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University, master's degree from
Chinese Academy of Sciences and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering
from Carnegie Mellon University.
An employee of Ford Motor Company since 2005, Dr. Li currently is research
engineer in Research and Advanced Engineering. His research interests include
response surface based optimization, MDO, CAE model verification and
validation and optimization tool development for vehicle safety design.
Dr. Li, a member of SAE, received his doctor of Engineering from Shanghai Jiao
Tong University and PhD from Wright State University.
Joining Ford Motor Company in 1988, Dr. Yang currently is a senior technical
leader in Research and Advanced Engineering. His research areas of interest
include MDO, safety optimization and robustness methods, model verification
and validation, robust design and statistics methods. He has published more
than 50 referred journal papers.
Dr. Yang, an ASME and SAE fellow, received his bachelor's degree in Civil
Engineering and master's degree in Engineering Mechanics from National Taiwan
University. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of
Iowa.
