Media Advisory: TuneIn and HOT 97 Bring a History of Summer Jam
Festivals to the Masses
Service Opens a Vault of Archived Performances to Over 30 Million
PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/22/12 -- TuneIn, a free service
that lets people listen to music, sports and news from all over the
world, has partnered with the #1 station for hip hop and R&B in the
tri-state area, WQHT-FM, "HOT 97," to create a first-of-its-kind
station, showcasing the world's premier hip hop festival, HOT 97
Summer Jam. For the first time, fans can experience nearly two
decades of HOT 97's Summer Jam from anywhere in the world, on any of
the 150 devices and apps which carry the TuneIn service. The HOT 97
Summer Jam Channel includes uncensored and uninterrupted music from
some of the biggest stars who have performed at HOT 97's Summer Jam,
as well as archived performances from years past.
Rick Cummings, President Programming, Emmis Communications, states,
"We are very pleased to have this partnership between our friends at
TuneIn and HOT 97 and especially glad to have developed a 'HOT 97
Summer Jam dedicated channel' on TuneIn."
"TuneIn now offers some of the most passionate music lovers and HOT
97 fans a unique way to participate in the biggest and most renowned
hip hop event on the planet," says Alex Cameron, Senior Vice
President/Market Manager, Emmis New York.
John Donham, CEO of TuneIn, adds, "We are thrilled work with HOT 97
to deliver rare content and performances, previously only available
on a hyper-local scale, to hip hop fans around the world for the
first time."
WHO: The tri-state area's largest hip hop and R&B radio station,
WQHT-FM, "HOT 97," is collaborating with TuneIn to create a HOT 97
Summer Jam station, celebrating the history of the largest hip hop
festival in America. This is the first time a traditional radio
station has curated a channel to expand their reach around one
specific event. However, TuneIn is creating a new digital music model
that broadcasters can use in a similar manner moving forward, to
extend their brand.
WHAT: The HOT 97 Summer Jam station, exclusively available on TuneIn,
includes uncensored and uninterrupted music from classic HOT 97
Summer Jam stars and artists performing at this year's event, as well
as archived p
erformances from historic HOT 97 Summer Jam artists.
These archived performances are not a part of the regular on-air
rotation, giving fans access to this type of content, previously
unavailable to them.
WHEN: Archived performances and hits from top HOT 97 Summer Jam
artists are available now, streaming for free. The station will have
a permanent home on TuneIn, streaming music from HOT 97 Summer Jam
artists and archived performances from years past, following this
year's festival.
WHERE: Listeners can enjoy the HOT 97 Summer Jam Channel on
smartphones with the free TuneIn Radio app, online at
by searching "Summer Jam" and on the more than 150 platforms that
carry the TuneIn service.
WHY: Not only does TuneIn allow HOT 97 to expand the amount of
content that it can distribute to hip hop fans, but it also brings
this content to fans outside of New York for the first time. The
radio industry is rapidly transitioning to digital formats, and
traditional radio stations are working quickly to adapt and compete
in an evolving streaming and digital landscape. This collaboration
illustrates how broadcasters are using the TuneIn platform to
distribute programming which can help expand their over-the-air
brand. Rather than becoming a content producer themselves, TuneIn has
teamed up with one of their broadcast partners and shown how the
TuneIn platform can help HOT 97 reach their audience on mobile
devices, set-top boxes, etc. in a new, creative way.
Additional TuneIn Stats:

-- 30 million plus listeners from 230 countries and territories
-- Over 60,000 stations are available, broadcast from 206 countries and
-- Over 2 million on-demand programs
-- TuneIn makes radio broadcasts available on 150 devices (e.g.
smartphones, tablets, web and car dashboards)
