Sounds of Gospel Return to the Delaware River Waterfront
Stellar and Dove Award Winner Israel Houghton Headlines Gospel
Concert at Penn's Landing
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/01/12 -- Gladness and joy
will overtake you on the Delaware River Waterfront at the Sounds of
Gospel concert on Saturday, August 25th from 3:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.
From beginning to end the sound of contemporary gospel, traditional
hymns and songs of praise will captivate you as it permeates from the
RiverStage at Penn's Landing on the Great Plaza. The Sounds of Gospel
Concert is co-Sponsored by Radio One, Praise 103.9, CBS 3 and The CW
Internationally acclaimed contemporary gospel artist, Israel Houghton
will headline this year's, Sounds of Gospel. As a singer, composer,
multi-instrumentalist, producer, worship leader and as the leader of
the musical ensemble and ministry organization "Israel and New
Breed," Houghton has garnered 4 Grammy(R) Awards, 6 Dove Awards, 2
Stellar Awards and a Soul Train Award.
Israel Houghton's multicultural upbringing has been pivotal in his
boundary-defying music, inspiring people regardless of their age,
race, or culture to come together as a united body. A keen sense of
music chemistry has brought forth a wide-ranging catalog of songs
which have become indispensable at worship services, on the radio and
in CD players all over the world. Houghton also serves as the worship
leader at the Lakewood Church in Houston, TX under the leadership of
Pastor Joel Osteen.
Houghton fulfilled a lifelong dream when he recorded his current CD,
"Love God. Love People." at the celebrated Abbey Road Studios in
London. With a little assistance from friends like Fred Hammond, Kirk
Franklin, Take 6 and his outstanding team of co-producers Aaron
Lindsey and Tommy Simms, Houghton has created a new elegy to love in
this impressive, 12 song sequence.
Whether she's harmonizing with her sisters (The Ferebee Sisters) or
the pure eminence of her voice solo, Treena Ferebee is a consummate
performer in her own right. At nineteen, Treena began singing
background for Platinum recording artist Musiq Soul Child from 2001
to 2004. She has also sang background vocals for Jill Scott, Richard
Smallwood, Dorinda Clark-Cole, R& B singer Glen Jones, V. V. Brown,
K- Ci & JoJo and Eric Robeson. Treena has also had the honor of
sharing the stage with extraordinary vocalist such as: Stevie Wonder,
Donnie McClurken, Chaka Khan, Prince, Jamie Foxx, Shirley Caesar, and
Treena has made national television appearances on shows such as, The
Soul Train Music Awards, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today
Show, $2 Bill Concert Series, The Apollo, The Late Show with David
Letterman, The Hurricane Katrina Relief program (aired on the Word
Network), and The Gospel Music Channel.

Philadelphia native Treena Ferebee serves as the Musical Director at

This year the Sounds of Gospel concert has an exciting virtual
addition: in July, Praise 103.9 FM will be looking for the area's
next inspirational artist that can inspire the Penn's Landing crowd
and bring them to their feet. Entry details for the contest will be
posted on praisephilly.com. The winner of this contest will have the
chance to open for National Recording Artist Israel Houghton on
Saturday, August 25th.
The Bryant Pugh Band will also be part of The Sounds of Gospel
concert with a high energy and spirit- filled performance on the
RiverStage at Penn's Landing.
