NMS Communications and Plexus Corp. Announce High Performance
Supply Chain Partnership
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. and NEENAH, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2002-- NMS Communications (Nasdaq NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, and Plexus Corp. (NASDAQ: PLXS), a leading provider of design, manufacturing, and testing services to the electronics industry, today announced that they have entered into an outsourcing manufacturing agreement. NMS and Plexus will jointly create and manage a best-in-class supply chain for the communications equipment suppliers, carriers, and network operators who purchase and depend on NMS printed circuit assemblies and sub-assemblies.
As a result of this partnership, NMS will be able to offer its customers industry-leading supply chain service levels, enhancing their ability to succeed in an increasingly dynamic business environment. NMS will immediately begin transitioning its product supply, circuit pack manufacturing, and customer order fulfillment to Plexus, and expects to begin volume production and order fulfillment beginning in Q4 of calendar 2002.
"We are pleased NMS selected Plexus as its supply chain and manufacturing partner. The direct link we have established between MRP systems and the on-line management tools we have created will allow Plexus and NMS to control all aspects of the supply chain," said Paul Ehlers, president of Plexus Electronic Assembly. "This complete Order to Direct Ship supply chain model will provide NMS' end customers with superior flexibility, time to delivery, and total cost savings."
NMS chose to partner with Plexus in order to streamline its supplier base, accelerate time-to-market, improve cash conversion cycles, and enhance total cost savings for its customers. Importantly, Plexus has a record of effectively supporting companies whose product lines encompass a high mix of products with low to moderate volumes, and who require adherence to a high standard of quality. Additionally, NMS will be leveraging a more environmentally friendly set of manufacturing processes through the use of well-established IPC-A-610 standard process chemistries and process control equipment advances such as high-speed Automated Optical Inspection systems.
"We're confident that Plexus' exemplary track record in helping companies bring new products to market and their unusually strong customer-centric operating culture will improve our manufacturing productivity and strengthen our supply chain capabilities," said Herb Shumway, vice president of NMS' Supply Chain Operations. "We look forward to implementing innovations with Plexus that will help us and our customers succeed in today's challenging environment."
