Credence's Quartet Chosen by Cirrus Logic to Test

Next-Generation SoC Devices FREMONT, Calif., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Credence Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: CMOS), a leading provider of test solutions from design-to-production for the worldwide semiconductor industry, today announced that Cirrus Logic, Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) has selected the Quartet(TM) Series to test multi-media communication devices, including DVD controllers for next-generation, high-end audio and video products. By utilizing the Quartet, Cirrus Logic will be able to reduce its overall test costs for complex system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The Quartet Series was chosen by Cirrus Logic as part of their strategy to increase test capability and efficiency, ultimately bringing devices to market faster and at a lower cost. The large installed base of the Quartet worldwide provides Cirrus Logic with a fast, seamless transfer of complete test requirements from the design engineering facility to independent foundries and subcontractors worldwide. Using the Quartet platform for design and production test requirements reduces overall costs, complexity and time required for test program development. "With industry pressures to bring products to market quickly, it is imperative to utilize an integrated and efficient test platform, which Credence provides us through their Quartet Series of testers and emulation software," said Jerry Gray, Vice President, World Wide Operations, Cirrus Logic. "As we continue to develop high-performance solutions to meet the growing demands of the consumer electronics industry, we looked for a system that would best be able to meet the test needs of devices with next-generation communications technologies. Cirrus Logic found that the Quartet offers the kind of innovative technology we need to deliver consistent quality to our customers. This choice was further complemented by Credence's demonstrated technical Field Applications experience, tremendous overall cost advantage offshore and capability to support systems worldwide." "We're pleased that Cirrus Logic, a leader of the digital entertainment revolution, has selected the Quartet as its SoC test platform, reflecting the performance, accuracy and flexibility of the system," said Ed Wagner, General Manager of Credence's Consumer Mixed-Signal (CMS) Division. "With Quartet's large installed base in foundries and test houses, many of our fabless customers have realized the benefits of standardizing on this test platform. Being the only ATE vendor to offer the most complete design-to-test solution makes us a natural choice for companies such as Cirrus Logic that are looking to enhance their production flow from the design phase through to production test." About the Quartet Series Credence's Quartet Series combines a high-performance digital subsystem with industry-leading audio and video instruments to seamlessly test consumer system-on-chip (SOC) devices and provides a definitive solution for high volume testing needs. Providing one of the lowest per-pin cost-of-test for systems in its class, the Quartet offers 100/200 MHz performance with +/- 175 psec EPA accuracy and supports various analog instrument options. New feature options include an innovative zero-time DSP per-pin architecture, faster and deeper SCAN, a new UltraSPARC server running the latest Sun Unix operating system, and new analog instruments for testing high-speed Ethernet and PRML devices.
