VALEO HONORED BY GENERAL MOTORS FOR THE 5TH YEAR

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1997--General Motors has just
announced its 1996 GM Supplier of the Year Awards which reward its
best suppliers every year. 
Valeo Electrical Systems won an award for both the starter motors
produced at its Isle d'Abeau (France) site which it supplies to GM
Opel Europe and for the alternators manufactured at its Etaples
(France) site which are delivered to General Motors North American
Operations. 
The winners were selected from a General Motors supplier base of
over 30 000 supplier companies throughout the world by international
teams of purchasing, engineering, quality and manufacturing people
from General Motors operations around the world. 
The Supplier of the Year awards became an international award in
1992.  Valeo is one of 18 suppliers to General Motors worldwide to
have won the award for the 5th year in a row. 
Valeo is an independent automotive components and systems at the
service of all automakers worldwide.  Group sales amounted to FF 28.8
billion in 1996 and increased by 13% in the first four months of
1997.  Valeo has 107 production plans and R & D centers in 19
