CHINA SOUTHERN AIRLINES ORDERS THREE ADDITIONAL A320S

HERNDON, Va., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- China Southern Airlines has once
again selected Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet expansion effort. At a
ceremony in Beijing, China Southern Airlines and Airbus Industrie signed an
agreement for the purchase of three single-aisle A320s, increasing its A320
fleet to 20, the largest in China.
These aircraft are part of the order for 30 Airbus single-aisle aircraft
placed by China Aviation Supplies Corporation yesterday.
Scheduled to be delivered in 1998, the new aircraft will be operated on
China Southern's selected domestic and regional routes. With standard seating
for 150 passengers in two classes, the A320 has the widest fuselage cross
section in its category, offering the airline and its passengers excellent
operational economics and cabin comfort. The choice of engines is yet to be
announced.
To date, Airbus Industrie has won a total of 1,193 firm orders from 52
customers for the A320 family. More than 600 of them are in operation with
some 60 operators worldwide.
China Southern Airlines has been a customer of Airbus Industrie since
April 1996 when it placed a firm order for ten A320s. The first aircraft will
be delivered to the airline in June this year.
