Airlines  POMONA, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes-Avicom International (HAI), a unit of Hughes Electronics Corporation and a world leader in the design and manufacture of commercial airline cabin management and entertainment systems, today announced that China Airlines will add the APAX 150 system to its purchase of four(4) new Boeing 747-400 aircraft.  The contract is for the delivery of the Hughes-Avicom APAX 150 system to be installed in first and business classes with first aircraft delivery scheduled for May 1997.  Hughes-Avicom will also be providing an integrated overhead video system for the entire aircraft featuring single lens projectors and high resolution 10.4" LCD monitors.  The advanced interactive inflight entertainment (IFE) APAX 160 system ordered by China Airlines has the capability to feature movies, games, shopping, surveys and beverage ordering.  These features can be used with or without revenue generation.  The system will also have full maintenance capability including advanced built in test features.  China Airlines has been an Hughes-Avicom APAX 150 customer since December 1992 and currently has installed the APAX 150 system on three(3) B747-400's and two(2) MD11 aircraft. The APAX 150 system is the most widely used and experienced interactive IFE system available today, and is in operation on over one hundred aircraft with six airlines worldwide.  Since 1966, Hughes-Avicom International has been a leader in the design and manufacture of advanced inflight entertainment systems.  This year Hughes-Avicom international introduced a technological first by offering direct broadcast satellite TV onboard a Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 aircraft.
