WITH QUALITY PAINT SOLUTION DETROIT, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) has selected FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. to provide an automated paint system for its truck paint facility in Oshawa, Ontario. The eight-robot system, equipped with AccuStat electrostatic spray guns, will replace eight hydraulic robots and a non-electrostatic painting system. "Our goal is to help the Oshawa paint center improve production operations and reduce paint costs while meeting stringent environmental standards," said James Vaughan, manager of paint and sealing sales for FANUC Robotics. Four P-155 robots, equipped with AccuStat electrostatic spray guns, will apply waterborne paint. An additional four P-155s will use electrostatic bells to apply clear coat. A ninth robot will be used for path inspection and training. "AccuStat guns isolate materials from the source, which allows the use of envionmentally friendly, waterborne materials," added Vaughan. "This process not only provides uniform film build, but doesn't sacrifice transfer efficiency, production rates or quality." FANUC Robotics has total responsibility for Oshawa's painting system which was installed in September 1993. FANUC Robotics North America, Inc., headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich., is a subsidiary of FANUC Robotics Corporation.
