RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Reynolds Metals Company (NYSE: RLM) and Sumitomo Light Metal Industries, Ltd. have signed an agreement to share existing technologies and to pursue joint research and development work on new technologies and processes in the production of aluminum sheet applications for the worldwide automotive industry. The agreement calls for representatives of Reynolds and Sumitomo to exchange existing technologies and to coordinate the development of new production techniques and products using aluminum sheet, including work on automotive body panel and brazing sheet applications. The three-year agreement was signed on August 31 as part of the implementation of an earlier memorandum of understanding reached by the two companies to advance the use of aluminum in automobiles around the world. The agreement potentially could lead to joint venture projects between the companies to develop both existing and new automotive applications for aluminum sheet products. -0- 9/14/92 /CONTACT: Andrew Lybrook of Reynolds Metals Company, 804-281-3262 or (home) 804-784-4486/ (RLM) CO: Reynolds Metals Company; Sumitomo Light Metal Industries, Ltd.
