Boots, BT, LSE, Mothercare, Tomkins: U.K., Irish Equity Preview

May 19 (Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may make gains or losses in U.K. and Irish markets today. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names and prices are from yesterday's close.

The benchmark FTSE 100 gained 50.90, or 1.04 percent, to 4949.40. The FTSE All-Share Index added 22.43, or 0.92 percent, to 2463.45.

Ireland's ISEQ Overall Index gained 85.76, or 1.42 percent, to 6142.36.

U.K. Companies:

Avon Rubber Plc (AVON LN): The supplier of military respirators is expected to release its first-half earnings. Shares of the company were unchanged at 213.5 pence.

Boots Group Plc (BOOT LN): The owner of U.K.'s largest drugstore chain may say fiscal full-year net income fell 34 percent from a year ago to 273 million pounds ($507 million) amid increased competition and a slowdown in consumer spending, according to the estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The stock rose 3 pence, or 0.5 percent, to 597 pence.

BPB Plc (BPB LN): The world's biggest producer of gypsum used in building that said on March 17 fiscal full-year earnings will rise to a record on higher demand and prices for plasterboard will report annual results. The shares gained 11 pence, or 2.4 percent, to 478 pence.

BT Group Plc (BT/A LN): Britain's largest phone operator may say fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose 32 percent to 399 million pounds from a year ago, after the company lowered borrowings and passed a target to connect 5 million broadband customers, according to the estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The shares added 2.25 pence, or 1.1 percent, to 201.25 pence.

Caledonia Investments Plc (CLDN LN): The British closed-end fund is expected to release its annual results. Shares of the company rose 14 pence, or 1.1 percent, to 1316 pence.

Invensys Plc (ISYS LN): The U.K. factory controls maker may say operating profit before one-time items slipped 26 percent in fiscal 2005, a survey of analysts by Bloomberg News showed. The shares fell 3.9 percent, to 12.25 pence.

Investec Plc (INVP LN): The owner of South Africa's second- largest money manager and No. 5 bank may say fiscal full-year profit rose 33 percent as the lowest interest rates in two decades spurred demand for credit and cut loan losses. The stock added 18 pence, or 1.2 percent, to 1576 pence.

Jelf Group Plc (JLF LN): The U.K.-based financial services provider that first sold shares to the public in October is expected to release its first-half results. The stock remained unchanged at 95.5 pence.

London Stock Exchange Plc (LSE LN): The U.K. exchange that may be taken over by a European rival will probably say profit fell 5.9 percent to 28.3 million pounds from a year ago in its fiscal second half after antitrust regulators forced it to cut tariffs, according to the forecast of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The shares rose 2.5 pence, or 0.5 percent, to 462.5 pence.

Mitchells & Butlers Plc (MAB LN): The U.K. operator of pub chains including All Bar One is expected to release its fiscal first-half earnings. The stock advanced 0.7 percent, to 307.5 pence.

Mothercare Plc (MTC LN): The U.K. retailer of maternity and children's wear is scheduled to release full-year earnings. The stock was unchanged at 287.5 pence.

National Grid Transco Plc (NGT LN): The owner and manager of the U.K.'s gas and power grids may post a 16 percent gain in fiscal second-half net income from a year ago to 810.5 million pounds as it cut costs and because of growing income from units such as telecommunications, according to the estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The stock rose 3.25 pence to 522.25 pence.

Petards Group Plc (PEG LN): The U.K. designer of electronic and security products and systems is expected to release its full- year earnings. The stock remained unchanged at 1.45 pence.

Pilkington Plc (PILK LN): The world's largest maker of car windshields will pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit accusing it of contaminating an Illinois town's water supply five months after a jury cleared the company at trial. The shares fell 1.5 pence, or 1.4 percent, to 110 pence.

Protherics Plc (PTI LN): The U.K. maker of snakebite treatments, said it is still in talks with possible partners for its medicine for severe sepsis. The shares remained unchanged at 46.75 pence.

SABMiller Plc (SAB LN): The world's fourth-biggest brewer may say fiscal full-year profit surged 59 percent from a year ago to $1.02 billion, as stronger economic growth and the rand's gain against the dollar boosted income from South Africa, according to the estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The shares climbed 16 pence, or 2 percent, to 831 pence.

Scottish Radio Holdings Plc (SRH LN): Scotland's biggest commercial radio broadcaster is expected to release its first-half earnings. Shares of the company fell 1.3 percent to 870 pence.

Synergy Healthcare Plc (SYR LN): The U.K. provider of medical- support services such as sterile surgical instruments and linen rental, is expected to release its full-year results. Shares fell 0.25 percent, to 394 pence.

Tomkins Plc (TOMK LN): The world's biggest maker of wiper blades is scheduled to release its full-year earnings. The shares rose 6.8 pence, or 2.7 percent, to 257.25 pence.
