Medvedev Reiterates Russian Aim to Create Supranational Currency
By Lyubov Pronina
June 16 (Bloomberg) -- President Dmitry Medvedev reiterated Russia’s intention to push for the creation of a global reserve currency to replace the U.S. dollar.
“The strengthening of the international currency system” requires first creating regional reserve currencies and then a “supranational currency,” Medvedev told leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Yekaterinburg, Russia, today.
“Reinforcing the international currency system should not be done through reinforcing only the dollar,” Medvedev said.
