Chiyoda, Technip Win 500 Bln Yen Qatar LNG Order, Nikkei Says

By Hector Forster

Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Chiyoda Corp. and Technip SA won a 500 billion yen ($4.3 billion) order to build two liquefied natural gas facilities in Qatar, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported, without saying where it obtained the information.

The two companies will each build plants with a capacity to produce 7.8 million tons of LNG by 2010 for projects led by ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Group Plc, the report said. Mitsui & Co. will take a 1.5 percent stake in the ConocoPhillips group, the newspaper said.

Chiyoda's share in the order, which is expected to be announced today, is about 300 billion yen, the report said. The plants will use natural gas produced at Qatar's North Field, Nikkei said.

The order was expected during the year starting April 1, 2006, and was brought forward because of the rise in oil prices, the report said.
