Lehman Has Enough Capital to Rebuild, Former Chief Tells CNBC

By Yalman Onaran

July 9 (Bloomberg) -- Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. has enough capital to rebuild its business, former Chief Executive Officer Peter Cohen said in an interview on CNBC television.

Lehman has raised capital that's many multiples of the losses it incurred on mortgage-related assets, Cohen told CNBC. The issues faced by the firm are shared by all Wall Street companies and the industry needs to work on a resolution, Cohen said on the cable television channel.

``Lehman is a firm that always rises,'' said Cohen, who runs hedge fund manager Ramius Capital Group LLC. ``They're going to have to figure out how to price their capital appropriately in the future, how to use capital to make money. This is not a quick fix for any of them.''

Lehman, the fourth-largest U.S. securities firm, has declined 66 percent this year in New York trading on concern further mortgage losses could bankrupt the company.
