Alcan in Talks With Bass Group for Sale of Swiss Aluminum Plant

Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Alcan Inc., the world's second-largest aluminum producer, said it may sell a smelter in Steg, Switzerland, to a group led by Albert Bass.
The two sides have begun preliminary discussions over the smelter, which has a capacity to produce 44,000 metric tons a year, Montreal-based Alcan said today in statement distributed by PRNewswire.
Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Inc. is the biggest aluminum maker.
